Course Intermediate Dutch B1 (Program I)
Learning goals
In the Intermediate B1 classes you will strengthen and deepen your grammatical knowledge gained during the first two levels. We will talk about various daily situations and you will get assignments, e.g. to read and prepare a presentation.
In the Course Intermediate Dutch (B1) you work towards to the language level Intermediate Dutch plus B2
The course is suitable for anyone who wants to continue to learn Dutch language and to prepare for the State exams Program 1.
Contents
Grammar:
In the Intermediate classes you will strengthen and deepen your grammatical knowledge, gained during the first two levels. Depending on the needs of the group, we will further elaborate on topics such as the “om + te infinitief”, word order and the various tenses. However, we will also introduce new grammatical subjects, such as, “zouden + infinitief” or “plusquamperfectum”.
Speaking practice:
We will talk about various daily situations. You will get assignments, e.g. to read. And we will help you prepare presentations about the news, a book or daily experiences. You will be asked to practice at home, to watch Dutch programs, talk to Dutch people or write a short text. Of course we will prepare for that and reflect on it in class. During the classes you will also learn new vocabulary and useful sentences.
After successfully completing this course:
you have a vocabulary of almost 4000 words and you are ready for the next level course Dutch Intermediate B2;
you are ready to take the State exams Program 1 : listening, reading ,speaking and writing.
Time & Costs investment
The course consists of two modules. Each module consists of 10 sessions in 5 weeks. You have two meetings of 90 minutes a week.
The total class time with a tutor is 15 hours in one module.
To ensure that you learn as much as possible from the meetings, we expect you to spend approximately twice as many hours doing homework than the number of teaching hours per week on self-study. You will of course receive learning materials and assignments for this, which will be discussed during the meetings.
- Full course of 10 weeks, twice a week 90 minutes in group of 4-6 participants: €530,-
- Partial course of 5 weeks, twice a week 90 minutes in group of 4-6 participants: €270,-
Method
We use as a teaching method the book 'Contact 2', Dutch for non-native speakers. This book has been specially developed for highly educated people who want to learn Dutch as a second language. We also offer an online learning environment, where your teacher will offer free extra learning materials and you can hand in homework.
Practical information
The language of instruction during the meetings is Dutch.
We count on everyone to have the materials with them for the first lesson and to have paid for the course so that we can get off to a good start right away.
